Xbox One X: Hands on preview

Unveiled to much fanfare at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles back in June, the Xbox One X is almost ready to be unleashed.

The new machine is a clear statement of intent from Microsoft. The former market leader may have fallen behind its bitter rival PlayStation in the sales race, but by establishing itself as the world’s most powerful console, the new Xbox is going to be a serious consideration for gamers looking to get the maximum bang for their buck.

Traditionally, the launch of a new console brings with it a raft of shiny new games to tempt buyers into making the leap and upgrading their current hardware.

While there are a few fresh titles scheduled to release alongside the One X, only a handful of them are Xbox/Windows exclusives, and all of them will be playable on the One S, which is being repositioned as an “entry-level” console.

Of course, none of them will look quite as good or run quite as smoothly as they do on the flagship machine, a point that Microsoft’s marketing team have been falling over themselves to emphasise.
