Asha is in the back seat whining and hopping from one side to the other, while Jazz lays patiently.
They both know this route well, and the entrance to the Waiuku Forestry is their signal that they are going on an adventure.
Asha tries to sneak her way into the front seat and Cassie Moran laughs.
“That’s normally her seat – she thinks she’s Queen Bee.”
Moran parks the car, and we enter the Bunneysville track, which is carpeted with pine needles the colour of rust. Her family’s dogs run ahead, their noses working overtime.
