Despite offering a range of diverse experiences from high-speed racing to underwater exploration, it’s clear that Sony’s PlayStation VR is still finding its feet in terms of what it’s capable of, and the best way to deliver it.
I’ve been very impressed with the platform has had to offer so far, and believe it could go on to establish itself as a major force in the gaming industry, but, as with any new technology, it’s going to take a while for developers to work out how to get the most out of it.
That’s going to mean taking risks, experimenting and putting the inevitable mis-steps down to experience. To be fair, the duds have been few and far between on PSVR and thus far heavily outnumbered by the good stuff.
One thing the system has been crying out for though, and something that has been conspicuous by its absence so far, is a truly immersive world, begging to be explored. A vast, virtual environment that you could happily lose yourself in.
